India’s successful story with LED Bulbs

India’s successful story with LED Bulbs

In today's article we will tell you about India's experience with the introduction of LED light bulbs. Just a few years ago, the world's second-largest country suffered serious economic and other problems due to the use of obsolete lighting methods and products. To overcome these problems, the Indian government took an important and courageous step, turning the country's lighting system to face the future with LED bulbs. See below for information about India’s experience with LED bulbs, from the idea of introducing them to the steps in the process and its end results.

What were the problems facing India?

Five years ago, most households in India still did not use LED bulbs and relied mainly on traditional incandescent lights. The reasons for this unusual situation for the 21st century lie mainly in the higher prices of LED bulbs and the lack of information among Indian consumers about their benefits and advantages. The consequences were dismal for everyone: for households themselves, for the country's economy and for the environment. Traditional light bulbs led to significantly higher electricity bills for mass consumers who were not particularly solvent. In addition, the resulting emissions caused serious environmental damage and forced the government to take a number of financial and other measures to address the environmental situation.

Mechanism for putting LED bulbs into use

To address the problems described above, the Indian government launched an effective lighting programme known as the "Domestic Efficient Lighting Program" (DELP). The ultimate goal of this programme was to replace traditional light bulbs, which were already obsolete and extremely inconvenient to use, with LED bulbs. How did the DELP programme guide the mass consumer in India to use LED bulbs? Government funding was used to remove the two most significant barriers to LED light bulbs: their high cost and the low level of awareness about their properties and benefits.

On the one hand, special government subsidies were granted to traders so that they could sell LED bulbs at extremely low and attractive prices to the mass consumer. On the other hand, information campaigns conveyed the advantages of LED bulbs in terms of efficiency, energy saving and environmental protection.

The methods of the DELP programme proved successful and with each passing year, the ratio of LED bulbs to traditional incandescent bulbs changed in favour of the former. To date, 700 million incandescent bulbs have been replaced by LED lights, with 414 million LED bulbs sold entirely by the private sector without any state subsidies. There are tangible changes in consumer awareness and behaviour in all 36 states in the country, and there is already an understanding of the lodfng-term benefits to households of LED bulbs.

Use of LED lights: Results

The results achieved as a result of the Indian government's LED-related programme were amazing. The use of LED bulbs resulted in total energy savings of approximately 100 million kilowatt hours within only five years. This consequently led to an impressive €400 billion reduction in annual electricity costs paid by households in India. In addition, there was a significant reduction in atmospheric emissions. It is expected that in the next few years the positive results will increase further, given that the government also has plans to gradually replace the used and obsolete lighting fixtures on the streets and main roads of the country with modern and efficient LED street lighting.

LED bulbs are an investment in the future and a step towards better financial, social and environmental prospects. Trust Electromarket and equip your home, office or other room with LED bulbs of the highest quality at great prices.
